"The Lesson of Love" is a single by the folk rock trio, The Dream Academy, released in 1987.
The song came to be when Nick Laird-Clowes went over to Los Angeles to play some records to their record label. During his visit, it was suggested that he should meet up with Patrick Leonard (who produced for Madonna) to work on some bass lines at his home. However, Laird-Clowes and Leonard managed to produce the entire song in just two four hour sessions, with Leonard encouraging Laird-Clowes to add lyrics in the spur of the moment.
